Everybody is Irish on St. Patrick's Day and that is exactly how you'll feel in Savannah, Georgia the week of March 17th! Savannah being in the top five cities in the US to celebrate this rowdy holiday, this year is looking a little different. If you are planning on visiting or are on the fence, here is what you can expect for the week of Irish festivities.

  1. Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade Is Cancelled: It is unfortunate news that the parade is cancelled, but it is for the best and the safety of the people. This doesn't mean that the whole holiday is cancelled, there will still be some events happening in Historic Downtown Savannah such as live music and signature Irish cocktails. We will miss sitting in our foldable chairs with family and friends watching amazing bands from all over the US, the beautiful Clydesdales, and running to kiss a soldier on the cheek with the brightest red lipstick you can find, but everyone understnads the cancellation of the annual parade is just to steer crowds away to create a safer environment than what it would normally be.

  2. Masks Mandates: Savannah mayor, Van Johnson recently renewed the mask or face covering mandate until March 7th, 2021 with a $500 fine. Until this mandate it has been a personal decision to use a mask while outside and wearing a mask inside a business as the business' decision. I believe this is how it will be during St. Patrick's Day week, those that want to wear it will and those that don't will not wear it. However, restaurants, bars, stores, and other establishments are all mask required.

  3. Outside Events 3/12-3/21: Even though the normal form of entertainment aka the parade is not happening this year, there are still lots of safe, outdoor options of live entertainment you can enjoy! On March 12th and 13th, two amazing family bands will be playing at the JW Marriott Plant Riverside. One being a local band, Tell Scarlet and the other a band from Nashville, WesternBoy. In another outside location called Starland Yard, they are having a "Socially Safe St. Pats"! Starting March 16th, they have trivia night, the 17th you can watch Brock Butler of Perpetual Grove and Bonnie Blue Band, the 19th Charlies Fog Band, the 20th is Damon & The Shitkickers, and to end the St. Patty's Day celebrations on the 21st is Lyn Avenue.

  4. Safe Outside Dining = Rooftops: What's better than safe outside dining with a view of downtown Savannah? We can't think of anything! Here are a few of our favorite, safely distanced rooftops:

    1. The Grove - located in City Market, great views and even better drinks. Fun choices of drinks such was a Champagne pops and a 166 oz mule!

    2. Electric Moon- a trendy, young adult hangout with an incredible view of the Savannah River and bridge. Saturday, March 13th there will be a DJ starting at 8pm. Also, there are slides that take you from the roof to another lower bar!

    3. Sorry Charlie's- known for their oysters, views from their new rooftop, and tiki bar on the floor below. On your way up to the roof grab a drink in a pineapple first!
